Custom module development

Subhajit Biswas asked on June 3, 2016 13:17

Hello All,

I have many things to ask of which I could not find any proper solution anywhere online.

I am trying to develop a custom module which will do a lot of things including updating records for a specific Page type (Document type). I have created an Alternative Form for that Page type but don't have a clue how to use that in my module. What should be the right approach for this? I tried using "aspx" pages as well as "Page template" could not find any help online on how I can put alternative form in there.

Second, I cannot make the left navigation tabs working properly in my module. Again I tried "Page template" and "aspx" both but don't know how to do it. For example below is the module pages.

Page (list of pages for the that Page type)
- Page Properties (to get the new vertical tab for edit page)
--- Edit Page
--- Manage Products (list of sub-pages, will use another Page type)
----- Products Properties
------- Edit Product
----- New Product
- New Page (adds the new record to the Page type, this is where I am trying to add the alternative form)

I really need to see some similar working examples, if available anywhere.

I don't know if it made any sense to you, still any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Subhojit

This is way to complex for one Q&A. You can take a look to some already implemented module or you can go to Module -> CMS and take a look how the User interface is configured for some of the section that has similar design as your custom module.

If you are not able to make it working. Please tell us some partial issues you are having and we can try to solve them one by one.

Thank you Jan for the response. I will post each question separately.
