Custom Form COmponent with a dropdown property

I'm looking for some documentation or guidance on how I might go about adding a custom property to a custom form component that presents as a dropdown list. The list would have a dynamically populated set of values which I think is the easy part.

Has anyone done this and can offer some advice on the approach?

Did you look at the following example on how to configure a DropDownComponent with datasource?

Thanks Jeroen - yes have reviewed it but we were struggling to get the control to be a property for another control. I think we have it sorted now. It's in the doco - just buried a bit deeper.
