Creating a dynamic aspx masterpage

Jose Zamorano asked on April 11, 2016 23:17

Hello,

I have done the tutorial https://docs.kentico.com/display/K9Tutorial/Walkthrough+-+Creating+a+new+site+using+ASPX+templates and that tutorial gives portal functionalities to the web pages, Now I want to extend and I am trying to give dynamic functionality to the actual site.master page created.

In the tutorial all the pages inherit from the masterpage but the masterpage in itself is static. I want to add portal functionalities to that masterpage and insert a zone on it, so then can place metatags (Facebook pixel, google analytics etc) through the javascript webpart using the portal. How can I achieve this? If someone can point me in the right direction or send a link to a tutorial that will be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Then you'll need to review how to add portal functionality to aspx templates. Functionality is similar in previous versions too. If it is version 9 I'd rethink your approach.

What you need to do is learn how to build a portal master page. What you're reading is how to create a master page using aspx templates. Creating a site using aspx mode will limit your users abilities to perform out of the box functionality. By using the portal method you can simply create or configure webparts to do what your custom code might do.

Hi Brenden,

Thank you very much for the suggestion. In this particular case the website has been built in Kentico using the aspx pages already and now it is required to give more functionality to the static aspx masterpage. I understand the advantages of the portal and that's why I want to give those capabilities to a pre-existent aspx templates website.

If there is a way to give an aspx masterpage the flexibility of having a zone webpart that will solve the problem and if you can point me in the right direction that will be really appreciated.

Thank you very much for all your help.
