change favicon

kyle shapiro asked on April 27, 2015 21:08

I am trying to change the favicon. I replaced the default Kentico icon with my own 32x32 icon of the same name. I then cleared my internet browser's cache, and reset the website through IIS. Am I missing a step? The icon still displays as kentico icon.

Open the file on the server and it shows up right after that.

Joshua, do you mean to navigate to the image in the browser, or physically open the image in an image editor? I have done both, but it has not changed yet. I'll give it another day.

It's all about your browser and your server how you have caching setup. You could clear your browser cache and restart the app pool, should help. I've just come to expect that it will change, I just never know when.

Every time I replace a favicon, all I do is double click on the file and open it in the image editor. Once I close it, it appears correctly. But as Brenden said, it depends on how your server is set up.

hey, just a follow up: I was experiencing some issues because I had edited the favicon with mspaint, and when it was saved, it kind of messed up even though it said it was .ico format. It would seem that in my company's configuration of server and such that it will take some time despite resetting the pool and deleting out the cache as Brenden suggested. Thank you both for the help as always.
