Can Pages Be Assigned to a Different Page Type?

Caleb Frederick asked on May 6, 2020 15:11

I'm wondering if a live page on a site can be be assigned to a new page type and still retain the page content. If so how do I assign it to a new page type? Thanks for your help.

Not really. It is technically possible if you do a ton of background work and basically hack the system. But it would be faster to simply copy and paste the fields into a new page with two browser windows (assuming you only have a handful of pages or less to worry about it).

I've often thought about creating a module to convert from one page type to another which would allow you to map fields from A to B. Never did it though because I found other ways around doing this.

One way is as Brian stated. Another way is to use the Kentico Import Toolkit (KIT) if you have "a lot" of pages. You can simply make your source and target database connections the same and import into a different location in the content tree. Then delete and move the pages when you're done.

As Brian said, no easy way but there are alternatives, which may only get you partially there.

Thanks. I think that gives me enough info for the time being.
