Browsetree permission per Department

Luca Dell'Angelo asked on June 12, 2014 04:56

Hi,

Is it possible to grant browseTree permission (content module) to an user on a specific department (or in general on a folder of the Tree)?

I have Dep1 and Dep2. User1 has read, modify, browseTree permission rights on Dep1 and no permission rights on Dep2. User 1 has browsTree permission on module module and editor privileges. When User logins to CMSSiteAdmin and clicks on Pages he can see Dep1 and Dep2 and its subcontents, too. I'd like User1 could only see Dep1 within the Tree. Is it possible?

I tryed to assign a Department to User1 (CMSSiteAdmin-->Users-->Edit-->Departments) but can't choose any department for the specific site although 2 departments exist

thanks

Hi Luca,

I believe the easiest way how you can handle such restrictions is to have "Check permissions" property enabled in all web parts which display the departments which would ensure web parts display only content to which a current user has "Read" permissions. You could also change the Check page permissions setting in Site Manager -> Settings -> Security & Membership to All pages in case a user somehow tries to access URL of the department he should not have access to.

Hi Filip, Thanks for your answer,

so User1 will still see all the Tree (De1 and Dep2) but can't see the content of the pages within Dep2. This is not exactly what I expected from Kentico...

Anyway, any suggestion for the second issue? (In CMSSiteAdmin-->Users-->Edit-->Departments can't choose any department for the specific site although 2 departments exist)

thanks

Hi Luca,

It is important to note that departments for users in Site Manager -> Users -> Edit -> Departments can be chosen based on E-commerce departments, not any specific document type.

Therefore if that is what you are looking for and you are sure you have 2 existing departments created in CMS Desk -> E-commerce -> Configuration -> Departments, at first I would suggest checking if the user is assigned to a site which contains those departments via Site Manager -> Administration -> Users -> Edit -> Sites.

Hopefully it makes a little more sense to you now.
