Automation Timeouts

Luke Ballantine2 asked on October 20, 2014 00:04

I am triggering an Automation action (send an email) and need it to be sent at 10 AM on the next Wednesday after the previous action is triggered. Could you let me know how to achieve this. Can I put Macro's in the timeout of a step?

Currently I have a step timeout and a wait to check for the day/time to send the email but this seems circular and the wrong way to achieve this.

Thanks

Rich

I note that didn't there used to be a timeout setter where you could choose more granular dates/times eg 1st Wednesday of each month ... or was this just advanced workflows?

Hi Richard,

I would like to mention that it is generally not a good idea to have many contacts within an automation process (for example on the waiting step) as it may have performance impacts. And further, there is unfortunately no direct support for such scenario.

If you have a scenario, where you would like to accumulate contacts and then send them all a newsletter at once, a better approach would be to subscribe them in the automation process only and then have the newsletter scheduler handle the sending.

Also, if you are planning on using similar scenario often, and you do not want to send a newsletter issue, but perform some other action, you can change some "contact status" in the automation process and then have a scheduled task perform the action for all such contacts.
