The issue is that the out of the box scheduled task is synchronizing content changes only - this means page related staging tasks. It is also mentioned in the documentation in the blue infobox.
If you want to synchronize automatically also other staging tasks, then you need to create a custom scheduled task and use the API. A sample proof of concept of such a task is described in this KB article.
