The Santa Clara Public Library District serves more than 418,000 people living in Santa Clara County, California.
They moved to Kentico after being frustrated with the lack of control over their prior CMS. It was complicated to do minor changes and most of the time would require working with the outside developer to update navigation, footer links, and so forth – also, many customizations to the CMS were not an option due to proprietary code and hosting setup. To make any changes to their previous website, the client had to contact their host/designer and wait a week or more. The client wanted the flexibility to change their website whenever the need arose. They also wanted to make their current design responsive and continue to integrate with their library catalog at Bibliocommons.
PMC recommended Kentico 8, which met all the client’s requirements and had easy-to-implement features like a single blog that propagates content throughout site, responsive design and custom library-specific widgets for catalog integration and podcasting. Using Kentico’s custom tables, the partner was able to implement a caching solution for the Bibliocommons API (library catalog system). The API is limited to two requests per second so this was critical for the client in order to build the desired sliders.
The new site has enabled the client to make changes that allow them to better adapt to the needs of the community and have full control over the environment.
