Kentico CMS for ASP.NET Free Edition Is Here!

   —
We have just officially released Kentico CMS Free Edition. This is the first time we give away a free CMS for ASP.NET to everyone!

The Free Edition can be used for any project, including commercial web sites. As you can expect, it comes with some limits so that we can still sell our paid licenses. It's true, but the Free Edition is still very powerful and useful for smaller web sites.

You can find all limits and compare the editions in the feature matrix. In short:

  • You can have only one global administrator and one content editor for a single web site
  • You can create only 1000 documents in the content repository
  • There can be only 100 site members (users who register on your web site)
  • You need to put the Powered by Kentico logo in the footer of all pages managed by the CMS.
  • plus there are some limits in particular modules.

The Free Edition also replaces the Standard Edition. We decided to drop the Standard Edition since it wasn't very profitable for us and many clients eventually upgraded it to a Professional or Enterprise Edition. Still, we wanted to have something very affordable for small web sites, so we released the Free Edition.

Please note: if you planned to purchase the Standard Edition and you still want it, please feel free to contact our sales at sales@kentico.com and they will send you a link for purchase.

You can get the Free Edition at http://www.kentico.com/freecms.aspx. The download and setup is identical to the full and trial version, the difference is only in the license key you enter. So if you decide to upgrade to a higher edition later, you only need to enter a new license key. You can generate any number of Free Edition license keys on our web site after registration.

This is also a great opportunity for our solution partners who can now offer Kentico CMS to all their clients who may benefit from a CMS and deliver them a higher value.

We have already received some very positive reviews in the press - CMS Wire and Information Week.

Thank you for providing this free edition! I am currently rewriting my personal site using the free edition, and the enterprise edition for the site for the company I work for.
