E-Mail Notification Issue
Hi there,

About a week ago, we started experiencing issues with e-mails not being forwarded on to our enquiry inbox after forms had been submitted on the website. After checking the e-mail queue, we found the e-mails were queued ready to be sent however, the system hadn't made any attempt to send them.

We ran several tests on all of our website's forms at the time and didn't receive an e-mail from any of them. Sending e-mails directly from the Kentico e-mail queue seemed to work fine though.

We found about 12 hours later the system finally sent them on.

The action I took was to restart the Kentico service, clear the system cache and clear unused memory. This action (so far) seems to have fixed the issue.

I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this same issue or something similar? If not, does anyone know why this might have happened? Should I be doing regular clearances of the cache, etc? If so, how regularly?

Hi,

Were there any errors logged right next to the items in the e-mail queue?
Have you checked the Administration -> Event log (in Site Manager) if there are any exceptions logged?
Also, what is the status of the e-mail cleaner scheduled task? Is this task running correctly without any exceptions?

Hi,

There were no errors listed in the e-mail queue. The status was just set to "Waiting".
There aren't any errors I can find in the log either and the e-mail cleaner is scheduled to run every day at midnight, which it appears to be doing successfully going by the "last run" date.

Hi,

I am sorry for the confusion - I actually meant the "Send queued e-mails" scheduled task. Is this being executed OK? Is the application running at that time? Or, you can use the external service to run this task so it is executed also if the application is not running (if it is not already set so - then you need to check that the service is running on the server).

Hi there,

Yes, it appears to be running this scheduled task fine.

It appears to be running successfully every minute.
I really can't see any other reason why this might have happened. Everything appears to be running fine now. Perhaps it was some kind of server delay?

Hi,

Well, it is possible that the application was not running at that time or, the scheduler had some problems passing the e-mails to the SMTP server.

Could you please observe the queue for couple more days and let us know if there will be any issues again?
