Hi,

could you please check on the remote server this folder App_Data\Templates\ if there are any page templates? If not, could you please copy them from your local machine?

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
Hi,

it could a problem of not allowing the system to create or write to the tmp files. Kentico needs to create temporary files in: ~\CMSSiteUtils\Import\ tmp. (If you are using a hosting server, it is possible that your provider cannot grant full access permissions to the application to write on to the disk as it is shared system.)

You could test the access in: Site Manager -> Administration -> System -> Test files. The article about permission settings could be found here: http://www.kentico.com/docs/devguide/index.html?disk_permissions_problems.htm

I tested the files acces in the system menu I tried to change the key in the web config as described in the article and I set full acces in the ~\CMSSiteUtils\Import\ tmp folder. But still does not work. I'm afraid becouse we wanted to use kentico as a cms base for our web application. There still something I can do? Thank You

Hi,

Could you please tell me which version of Kentico you are using? I would send you an export of appropriate version of sample Corporate site so that you could try to import it and we could get to know more.

Do not you have the site live so that we could inspect it in your background?

Was the file test OK?

Thank you.

I use version 3.1a.
I'm building a site for a community maybe would be better a personal site than a corporate one, you know better than me so you choose.
The site is on line at: www.artealtro.net
The file test is Ok.
Thank You

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
I tried to import the files you sent me but I receive this error:

Error during temporary files creation. Original exception: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission

Warning: The VirtualPathProvider is not running. This could be caused by the fact that you are using precompiled website or the application runs under medium trust environment. In this case it is not recommended to copy objects files during the import process.

Hi,

it could be caused by a Medium-trust environment. Could you please try to follow these instructions?

http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/installation_in_medium_trust_e.htm
http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/configuration_for_medium_trust.htm

Thank you.

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
I to configure everything as in the article but still kentico does not create the web site I think the is that it is not able to create folder in the hosting server in fact I'done this procedure: "Save all virtual objects to disk”. and It created just the first folder of the following 3

• ~/CMSTransformations – Contains the document transformation files

• ~/CMSLayouts – Contains the shared page layouts

• ~/CMSTemplateLayouts – Contains the custom page template layouts

If you want you can see by yourself at www.artealtro.net

Hi,

I have discussed your issue with our developer and he advices not to use a Medium trust enviroment (I am sorry) and check the free space on the disk and database. It seems it may not create or import a site because of no space.

Hi,

Could you please describe us your environment with more details?
What are the exact steps leading to this problem? Was the import/export fine some time before?

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
Hi, the server that I'm installing the CMS onto is a Linux / Windows shared machine, equipted with .Net 2.0

I had followed the exact steps described in the section "Installation on shared hosting server" from the developer's guide 3.1a

After I've set up the database and copied all files to the server's root, I ran the online set up by going to the <my domain>/Default.aspx page. And I see the following.
(xxx represents the server user account)

The NTWEB\xxx account is not granted with Modify permission on folder \\10.0.0.104\xxx\public\. Although this is not an error, it's highly recommended that you configure these permissions.

The permission for the public folder is set to 775 (rwxrwxr-x)

So I try to chmod the folder to 777 (rwxrwxrwx) and hit the "Test permissions again" button. And I see this error

Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
Then it suggest me to add debug="true" to the page.

So I opened up public/CMSInstall/install.aspx and added debug = true after <%@ Page Language="C#"

Then I go back to <my domain>/Default.aspx and it magically show up the set up screen.

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
Then I input the the database server information into the set up wizard with "Create Kentico Server Object" checked.

Then the sql scripts were running for a while and give me the following:

The installer couldn't update the web.config file on your server. This may be caused by limited file system permissions. Please open your web.config file manually in Notepad and add the following line inside the <connectionStrings></connectionStrings> section below the <clear /> line: (xxxx are the correct value on my server by the way)

<add name="CMSConnectionString" connectionString="Persist Security Info=False;database=xxxxxx;server=xxxxxx;user id=xxxxxxxxx;password=xxxxxxx;Current Language=English;Connection Timeout=240;"/>

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
then i added the connection string to web.config and hit next and it give me another error: The connection string you added doesn't match. Make sure, the connection string is correct.

So, instead of retrying the same steps, I restored the original web.config and give it write permissions. Then I drop all the previousely created database objects and ran the online set up wizard again, but same error saying connection string doesnt' match.

Now I'm stuck here.

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
Ok, so I somehow fixed the conection string issue by correcting the string.

Now I hit next again and it give me the following again.

Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

After that, I tried <my domain>/Default.aspx again and I can see a link that points me to the Site Manager, so I click that link, and try to create a new web site using a wizard, then I ended up with the following error.

[ImportProvider.CreateTemporaryFiles]: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package.

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
I guess it's the files/folders permissions that give me these troubles. But I'm not sure which folder should be granted which permission under the linux environment.

I granted 777 to the public folder already, and the CMS sub folders, some have 755 and some have less permission.

Your help of explaining how to set up appropriate permissions in linux chmod would be very helpful.

RE:Error in deployment: Data not found or the package is not a valid export package
Hi,

This seems to be general .NET issue that sometimes occurs when you are using web farm or cluster. Could you please try to change your web.config file as described at https://support.aspdotnetstorefront.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=183? You could also eventually disable viewstate MAC validation by setting enableViewStateMac property of <page> element to false.

Hi,

This problem can also be caused by the not valid viewstate - after what time you hit the next button? It is possible that the session already expired and the viewstate was no longer valid on the server.

Hi,

What are your IIS settings? You mentioned that it is Windows/Linux shared machine. Which OS is virtual?

This error can also happen by IIS not configured well. Could you please try to run CMS locally if it is running fine? It seems that the problem is on the hosting side.

Best Regards,
Juraj Ondrus
