Webserver Required Ports

Les Girvan asked on May 19, 2021 13:19

Hi Guys,

We are planning to upgrade our website hosting to Azure and finding an issue with email sending, can you advise the required ports for email sending to open, plus any other specific ports we will require?

We have already opened 80 and 443.

Cheers Les

Most likely it's an issue on the SMTP side. I'd check for any logs or info on that side.

Could be that it's simply not allowing the domain or IP your sending from.

What error are you getting? And what email provider are you using?

This is the error we are getting:

> Failure sending mail.> > Unable to connect to the remote server> > A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 213.165.67.115:25

I have however, tested the email address we are using to send a confirmation from another of our live sites, and the email sends fine?

it's using port 25, but that's the outgoing request...

Are you sure the credentials and IP are correct?

I have added port 25 as an open port to any outgoing request, does this need incoming port 25 to be opened then?

As for the IP address, I have no idea what that relates to, our production site has admin@domain as the sending address and sends with no problems, despite that if you try and email directly to that account, it will fail as the domain is registered for M365.
