Unable to start the application after 29.1.4->29.4.0 upgrade and CI import

Hello,

After:

migrating my libraries from version 29.1.4 to 29.4.0
updating the database to version 29.4.0 with 'dotnet run --kxp-update'
importing with CI the elements that had been exported in 29.1.4

I am now encountering this error when starting the server:

NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. CMS.LicenseProvider.LicenseModule.SetInstanceId(object sender, EventArgs e)

This board on DevNet is for Xperience 13 and earlier questions.

With that said, I would also check whether you have added a valid license key for this site: Licensing self-managed Xperience deployments. There has been some licensing changes in more recent versions but you should still be able to use the old license format for now. You should still be able to get into the administration interface (yoursite.com/admin by default) to check the licenses.
