Stopping auto scroll on pager functionality

When selecting on the new page number on the bottom of a search results page, the new page loads with the original scroll position of the bottom of the page. How do I get it to return to the top of the page?

I've tried javascript in a page load with a window.scroll to set a new position but this doesn't seem to work.
