Smart Search Not Returning Results

I'm new to Kentico Smart Search and have a rather urgent problem on a production site.

We are on Kentico v8.1.4 and have a page with a Smart Search Results web part. This uses an index called LocationsIndex. On the frontend, whenever someone does a search, there are always no results. I checked the preview search for the index on the admin area and found it does return search results. The search option is set to Basic. The "Search on each page load" checkbox is checked.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I rebuilt the index and cleared the cache and got it to work. I don't know why the search failed to begin with though.

Did you create the Index and is it created without any errors?

How many pages are there in your index?

Andre,

Go to Smart Search application and located an index used by Search Results web part (check web part settings for it), open it and see the amount of pages indexed, index status, also check search preview if it returns any results. This will help you to figure out if there is something wrong with index or results page.

Was index there when you rebuilt it? Usually this happens when there is no content in Index. Which happens when you don't assign any culture to a index.

The index was there when it was rebuilt. I even did a search preview for it and got results.
