Sign Out button not showing

I have a site based on the default intranet site. Some users requested the ability to log out, I checked the root document and the sign out button web part is in the header but it’s not showing on the site. It is set up to use windows authentication, would this be why the button doesn’t show?

Yes, that's the case. The button is hidden when windows authentication is used.
