Shipping Based on Total Price

Ben Bricker asked on April 29, 2016 22:13

We have a client that would like to have the shipping price a flat rate of 15% of the order price. I know that there is a way to calculate the shipping cost based upon the carrier and the weight of the items, but I can't seem to find anything about a percentage based shipping rate. I wasn't sure if anyone else has ran into this problem and would have any suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Have you considered development of custom shipping carrier provider? You may find some inspiration here:

I assumed that is what I would need to do, but didn't want to reinvent the wheel if it was already a feature that I was just missing.

Thanks!

Ben, did you ever find a solution? Price based shipping is a staple of most ecommerce systems. One way to work around I thought about. Set your Weight = Price of item. Then create weight based tiers.

Eric, I ended up using a custom shipping carrier provider that calculated 15% of the price of any items that needed to be shipped, and it's been working as it is supposed to. I never would have thought to set the weight as the price though. I believe that would work as well! Thanks for your response.
