Personas based variants for external authenticated users

Hi.

I am having trouble setting up the variants to show based on personas. I added an authentication handler as described at Custom external authentication where, based on a simple condition like having a specific username, I returned a UserInfo with the UserSettings.UserGender being male or female. First thing I observed that, after logging in for the first time, the UserGender is not shown by a macro. If I log in the second time with the same username, the UserGender is shown correctly. Secondly I created two personas with one rule on each to verify the gender. Then I setup variants for an image. The variants are showing correctly for the "internal" users, but not for the external ones.

Is there something I should do to make the external authenticated users work as expected?
