Page Template Permissions (Editors)

Donnie Hyatt asked on July 1, 2015 04:21

I need my content editors to be able to assign templates to pages they have access to, but not edit those templates.

If I revoke permissions for the editor roles Design Module (Design Website), then the ability to edit the template in the Design tab is removed: the desired behavior. However, selecting the Template tab results in a 403 IIS error.

Please explain how I can allow my editor roles to switch templates, but not to edit templates.

Donnie,

I've spent more than hour, but finally configured it. So I worked on CMS Editor role, which had default security settings: Design tab is not allowed - which what you need Properties -> Templates gives 403 error

So I went to CMS Editor role edit screen -> Permissions: Permissions for: Module Module: Design

and checked Allow for Design Website permission. This enabled Properties -> Templates area for the editor, but design tab remains invisible (it is denied in UI Personalization section).

So looks like this is solution, but it might potentially allowed access to some other sections for CMS Editor, but I'm going to leave this for you.

Hope this helps.
