On-site content editing not working

Yatish Ram asked on September 19, 2016 12:22

We have a website based on intranet portal template. On-site content editing is switched on. We have placed Edit Text web parts on different pages.

But content editors don't see the edit icons when they go to the page. Only admin users can edit the content.

I found the problem. UI personalization window lets you select different features for different role. It's big checkbox list, what's not mentioned in the documentation is in order for a feature to work, it's parent feature must be also be selected.

In other systems, when you select a feature, all other features that it needs are either selected automatically or a warning is given. No such thing here.

Do you have UI personalization enabled for your site? If so, please check your editor's role has the CMS On-site editing section enabled.

As far as I'm aware UI personalization is on. I have selected the correct role and turned on CMS On-site editing.

Your css could be overriding the icons used. I have had that happen before. Try to comment your css out for a second and see if the kentico icons appear. This may show you that your css is hiding or moving the icons/links that Kentico uses. Then, you can modify your css to make them show if you find that this is the issue. Also, there are strict permissions that can be set as well for on site editing. If admins see it, you may need to modify the permissions of the role or users. There is an on site editing section for the permissions which may not have everything set.
