media file: change file that permanent link is pointing to?

Hi,

On our website we have linked to a PDF in the media library using the PERMANENT LINK.

We'd like to CHANGE that PDF, but keep the permanent link the same ... basically change the file that the permanent link is pointing to. Is that possible?

Really, they shouldn't have used the permanent link to link to that PDF ... but they did, and now we'd like to REPLACE the PDF without breaking that original permanent link.

If you update the file via Update button in Media Libraries keeping the same file name (or you can rename it later), it keeps permanent link and other metadata unchanged and only substitutes the file content. Media file GUID remains the same:
