Kentico Upgrade to Version 8 with existing Code and Database at different servers

Aashish Khandelwal asked on July 16, 2014 10:21

My Kentico code is on one server and Kentico database is located remotely on different server. While running the upgrade program, I was not able to take backup of database (located remotely).
I skipped the backup and tried running the Code file and database script updations but ended up with errors in upgrading database.

Kentico version I am using is 7.0.31. Can I directly upgrade kentico 7.0.31 to version 8 or I need to apply hotfixes first?

Please suggest.

I think you can directly upgrade to 8. The only time that you can't directly upgrade is if you are past a certain hotfix(7.85 I believe). Did you check and see if you got error when you ran the upgrade script?

Also, did you save the log file after the upgrade? Usually that will give you some insight to the error that occurred. That may be worth looking at.
