Images and smart filter mode

Hi i am thinking of a different approach to the use of the smart search filter. Has anyone ever tried to link a smart filter to a thumbnail image rather than the drop-downs or check boxes. I am trying to provide a more visually stimulating search capability. Any pointers or directions on this would be greatly appreciated.

You mean that instead of the drop down options you display as images?

I think you need to clone the Smart Search Filter Web Part and add your custom image filter mode:

Which will probably be same checkbox listing but in code you add a css class that will be picked up by your styling.
