Create CTA buttons in Hero Image within CMS

Leigh Bowers asked on November 1, 2019 13:37

I am totally new to Kentico, having only installed it locally yesterday. I couldn't even get the demo instance working, as page requests kept resulting in .Net errors. I eventually just created a new empty site. Anyway...

A friend has asked if I could help them with their existing Kentico site: I've been asked to put buttons in hero images. Ideally to be able to put text and an image within the button.

At the moment, this means nothings to me - I'm that new to Kentico (and CMS in general, although I am a .Net developer). I do plan to learn Kentico, but the change need to be live asap, so I'd like to learn just enough to help them out initially.

Can anyone give some advice/pointers to get me going as quickly as possible? Should this be easy to do? I'd really like to be able to help out, but I won't have time to learn Kentico fully first.

Many thanks

Hi,

Think it's best to start at the documentation:

where the most important question would be first:

  • which version?
  • Portal or MVC

https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp

The term 'Hero Banner' does not reflect any default Kentico item, but might been setup using either Web Parts and/or Widgets when doing Portal.

Hi. Thanks for responding!

Sorry for the lack of solid detail. It's Kentico 11.0.16 and MVC (I believe - how can I be sure?). I've been given admin access to the site.

Apologies. I meant hero image.

It may be that I can't help, having so little knowledge of Kentico, but I'd like to try. I also see it as an "in" for me with Kentico, as it's something I've been meaning to get familiar with for some years. I'd normally read through documentation and watch tutorials, but time is against me.

Unfortunately this is a bit little to go on with.

If it's MVC you need code access to at least change the view.

Also try the Pages application in the Admin interface to try and see if you can find how the components are build up. But if you have nobody to help you explain anything I'd be careful touching anything.

I appreciate your input. I assumed it would be a simple to implement feature, without the need for code access.
