Can't connect to SQL instance

Douglas Fittipaldi asked on November 25, 2022 18:21

Hello:

I've been playing around with the Xperience demo and everything was going well until a few days ago when I was getting an "LocalDB parent instance version invalid: MSSQL13E.LOCALDB" error. After Googling for a bit I decided to delete the instance and recreate it, which solved that issue, but now Kentico can't connect to the LocalDB instance even thought the instance itself is there and I can access it using SQL Enterprise Manager. I'm guessing there is a user I need to give rights to access the database again. If so, which user would that be to get the demo working again? Or is the issue something else? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Douglas,

Have you tried to connect with the database manually via the Kentico installer? The option "Custom installation" allows you to specify the credentials for the DB if you choose the option "I have access to SQL server" in step 3. Hopefully that will give you insights for better troubleshooting.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Jeroen

Hi Jeroen:

Thanks for the response. I ended up creating a new connection string by making a new SQL user and giving them owner rights to the database. That got me back up again.

Hi Douglas,

Thanks for letting us know! That is usually also how I would handle it.

Cheers, Jeroen
