Adding extra meta data fields to doc in doc library and modify displayed column of document library

Hi All. I have the following questions

  1. How can I add extra meta data fields to a document?
  2. How can I change the columns displayed in a document library web part, like the new meta data fields I want to add, an can the output of a doc library web part be grouped. For example I created a page to display committee minutes. Since all I can display is the document name I renamed all my document with the format yyyy-mm-dd committee name minutes so they can be displayed in Chronological order but now site users want the minutes to be grouped by academic year.

Claudette, are you talking about CMS.File? If yes, go to Page (Document in versions prior 8) Types application, navigate CMS.File page type, click Edit next to it, and switch to Fields tab.

Regarding Document Library web part: are you using all it's functionality? If you are using it only for documents listing, then you could easily use repeater for example, or any other viewer with whatever transformation you need. If you're using Document Library not only for listing, I'd try to make a copy of it and try to modify it's look and fill.
