Images disappear
We have an intranet site that suddenly during the day today all images stopped by displayed by Kentico (Cms V6).

The only way to fix it is to Save and publish every node that has an attachment and every cms.File that is an image (Even though the node shows "green"). Even going to list and publishing all doesnt help.

Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it without going to every node and save and repulishing?

RE:Images disappear
To add to the above, the images in our media library have gone missing as well. On the live site it looks like:

User image

And a bit scary, but in the cmsdesk it is empty:

RE:Images disappear
I am working with Chanan. I don't know if this is useful, but I found this event in our logs:Message: [DocumentHelper.GetAttachment]: Attachment with given GUID not found in document version.
Stack Trace:
at CMS.WorkflowEngine.DocumentHelper.GetAttachment(TreeNode node, Guid attachmentGuid, TreeProvider tree, Boolean includeBinary)
at CMS.ExtendedControls.CMSDialogHelper.GetMediaData(String url, String siteName)
at CMSModules_Content_Controls_Dialogs_General_DialogFooter.SelectMediaDialog(IDictionary selectionTable, ICollection anchorsList, ICollection idsList)
at System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument)
at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

Also, it appears that saving any document type with a built in image, like the teaser in a news item. For editable text web parts, i have to save the image on the form tab in the CMS to get it to appear.

RE:Images disappear
Hi,

Are you using workflow on given documents? It seems that some inconsistence is present in the database. What usually fixed this issue was just to remove the last version on the Properties -> Version tab of the document(s). And after doing that, I do not remember any user to come back that the issue occurred again.

Best regards,
Juraj Ondrus

RE:Images disappear
Yes, we are using workflow.

Is there a quick way of doing that we have many files that this happened to - The whole site?

Also, how will we fix the media library?

RE:Images disappear
This is now also happening on our corporate site.

In this case I went and fixed all the links and after a few hours it started happening again. Is there a way to fix this all at once instead of one image at a time? And what is causing this and how can it be fixed so it won't happen?

Both site are running v6.0.4402

RE:Images disappear
Hi,

As regards to your document attachments, could you please let me know where are they stored (file system, database, combination)?

Do you have problems with images/files on live site (published) or images/files of the latest version of your document (does not necessary need to be published document)?

As far as I know, there were some bugs in version 6.0 regarding workflow and attachments, so I would recommend you to apply latest hotfix package.

However, do you remember what the changes were before this issue occurred?

As regards to media library files, can you confirm that these files are physically located on file system in the location where they should be? One thing is that the files are registered in media_file table in database, but the other thing is that they need to be located on file system as well.

Haven’t you deleted one of your web sites in your instance of Kentico CMS or used import/export or content staging module when this issue happened?

We can investigate this issue for you, but you would need to provide us with backup of your database and project folder from the time when you are experiencing this issue. Just based on the description that we have at this moment, we are not able to tell you what could be happening in your case. Any steps to reproduce this issue (some pattern) would be appreciated.

When you are saying that it is happening on both web sites, are these web sites running in one instance of Kentico CMS or are they separate? Are they running on one web server? If so, are you using some shared location for files?

Thanks,
Miro

RE:Images disappear
Hi Miro,

Installing the hotfix did not help.

These are two separate servers not the same physical one. The files are in the database.

Nothing we did seem to have caused it. It seems to be spontaneous.

I am not sure where the media libraries store their files on the disk, can you point me to the correct place.

How do you want me to supply you with the backups? What do you need a site export? or a copy of the db and file system? Where do I send it.

Here are two more images showing the image problem outside of the media libraries.

Here is the cmsdesk:

User image

And in the page:

User image

Those images are from our intranet. To see the issue on our corp site you can visit this page: http://healthed.com/pharmavoice.aspx - I checked that one this morning, the images were showing, now they aren't again. No one edited that page in the meantime.

RE:Images disappear
Hi,

You can configure the location of media library files in your web site settings. Here is the documentation explaining where the media library files are stored:

http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/configuring_custom_storage_for_media_library.htm

When talking about document attachments, this seems to me like an issue with your links and the way how they are generated. Let’s consider following example link which in one of your images

http://healthed.com/cms/getattachment/ea041aa3-dd8c-4a76-90fa-3925fe400341/susan_collins.jpg.aspx

As you can see there is extra "cms" in the path. If you try to access such URL, system (CMS) will ask you to log in, because of the URL (this is by design).

However, if you remove the cms from the URL, you will be able to access your image:

http://healthed.com/getattachment/ea041aa3-dd8c-4a76-90fa-3925fe400341/susan_collins.jpg.aspx

Does it make sense? So, the question for you is how are you generating your URLs and why in this way. When you are logged in the CMS Desk and access the live site (let’s say as administrator) you are able to see the images, am I right? If so, this is the case that I just described.

Thanks.
Miro

RE:Images disappear
Yes, that was the issue on the corp site. So that is ok now.

On the Intranet, it wasn't the same problem. I put the hotfix 25 on, and archived and republished the whole site which causes the images to appear again. I will wait and see if it happens again.

I haven't checked the media library yet, I wanted to see what happens with the other images first.

Hi,

If you find some pattern (steps to reproduce) to what is happening in your case, we will be happy to investigate this issue for you.

Thanks,
Miro

RE:Images disappear
The image problem seems to be fixed in the latest hotfix (Or at least it hasn't happened again yet).

Thanks for the link to the media library, I figured out the issue with that as well. We started out with the site name as IntranetPortal, but they finally choose a real name for our intranet and the site name was changed. This caused the media library to still show the info, but not show the images since the images location is tied to the site name. I suggest that the folder should be renamed if the site is renamed to avoid this issue for others in the future.

RE:Images disappear
Hello,

This behavior is by design. The folder name isn't renamed because of possible linking issues, if a file was referenced directly. It depends of course on your setup, how you are generating the links, but this is usually the behavior our clients wanted.

Boris Pocatko
