Remote Server Install
Really new to Kentico and a little confused on the best installation for my situation. I have a remote virtual server that the website will ultimately be running on. I have a local development machine that I currently do all development on for our current non-CMS website. I want to be able to create custom webparts for the CMS websites from controls I already have built for our current website. From what I've read about this process it's best to open the CMS project in Visual Studio and create those webparts that way. My question is with the server set up we have, should I be following the Remote Server Installation model for Kentico CMS 7 installation?

Hi,

Either way is OK - it depends what is more convenient for you. However, you can do the development locally, then just copy the code files to the remote server to the Kentico project folder and register them as web parts in Site Manager.

Kyle, I have several environments like yours and perform the initial install on my local machine then FTP to the remote server. This gives you the ability to develop and test your changes prior to deploying to the live server.
