UI Personalization + Design Tab
Hi,

I set up UI personalization and for the most part it works. I have hidden certain tabs in the CMS Desk from CMS Editors. My issue is that no matter what I do, the tab CMS Desk ->Content -> Edit -> Design is always hidden. I believe this is a bug since the other tabs are hiding and showing correctly.

Also, under the CMS Desk -> Administration -> Configuration tab, I always see the child items here even if I disable them under UI personalization.

RE:UI Personalization + Design Tab
Hello.

I tried to set up this on my machine (site: Corporate site) and it works with following settings for my testing role (TestRole) and users within (e.g. Abi):

1. Site Manager / Administration / UI personalization / [Site: Corporate site; Role: TestRole; Module: CMSDesk] /CMSDesk / Content [checked].

2. Site Manager / Administration / UI personalization / [Site: Corporate site; Role: TestRole; Module: Content] / Content / Design [checked].

3. Site Manager / Administration / Permissions / [Site: Corporate site; Permissions for: Module / Content] / Role: TestRole / Read + Browse tree [checked].

4. Site Manager / Administration / Permissions / [Site: Corporate site; Permissions for: Module / Design] / Role: TestRole / Design web site [checked].

Having my permissions like above, Abi in TestRole can see CMSDesk / Content / Design tab with no problem (actually she can see this Design tab only when having permissions like that).

Could you please check your permissions according to that? Thank you.

Best Regards,
Radek Macalik

RE:UI Personalization + Design Tab
Yes the issue was with the permissions. I was trying to add permissions via the development tab under the Web Parts section. Thank you for clearing this up with me.

Hello.

I am glad it works now. Permissions are a little bit magic sometimes, as there are many options and combinations. However, we are here to help you so you can let us know anytime you need some help.

RE:UI Personalization + Design Tab
Hello Radek,

I'm a fairly new user of Kentico. I followed all the guidelines that you listed above but I still do not have access to the Design tab. The reason I need it is because I want to be able to insert web parts into the page (e.g., a dropdown content box for FAQs)

Please help. :(

Nevermind, I figured it out. Thank you! Now, all I have to do is find out how to use the FAQ template without starting from scratch (inheriting the design of the parent page) or some web parts.

Hello Gareth,

If you could describe your problem more detailed I would be glad to assist you. However in general the FAQ articles works just like any other document type. You can inspire in "News" section in our sample Corporate site sample. This could be also related http://devnet.kentico.com/Forums.aspx?forumid=45&threadid=20206

If you have any particular questions please feel free to ask.

Kind regards,

Richard Sustek

RE:UI Personalization + Design Tab
Hello Richard,

Thank you very much for the quick reply and for providing me with the link. I got lost at bullet number 4, where it says "create a new FAQ aspx template, using the existing News template as a guide (...\News.aspx)" I'm guessing I go to Development > Web Templates > New Web Template, but I'm not sure as it doesn't ask me whether I want to base it off an existing template.

I'm not familiar with repeaters either (what are they, if you don't mind me asking?). I apologize for the basic questions that any developer should know. Not familiar with Kentico and unfortunately, I'm the only one in my department. :(

Thanks again, Richard. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Gareth Cj. Wee

RE:UI Personalization + Design Tab
Hello Gareth,

You are welcome.

I think know that the best way you can learn how to create a new document type (e.g. the FAQ page) please refer to another more suitable guidenance here. This article will show you how to create a new document type "products" and show them on the live page. You will see that creating the FAQ section can be done the same way.

As for the repear goes - repeaters are webparts which can display certain document on the site. Say you have a documents news under some folder. You want to show those news on some page. You will add this repeater and configure it like - I want to show document news, I want to have them ordered by date and I want to limit the selection for 3 latest news...+ much more settings. Then you set the Transformation which basically you use html code (with some macros) to tell the repeater how exactly to show the certain fields of news such as News Title, News text, Author etc. You will find these examples in the link above.

If you have further questions, feel free to ask.

Kind regards,
Richard Sustek

RE:UI Personalization + Design Tab
Hello Richard,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I haven't had the chance to try anything out yet because of other priorities at work right now but I will definitely let you know if it works or not when I get the chance (though I'm sure it will). Thank you very much for providing me with the link and for the explanation of what repeaters are.

I hope all is well with you. Thank you very much again for all your help. :)

Best regards,
