problem with alias without file name
I'm 301 redirecting some of our old pages after a site launch and am having problems creating aliases for them when they are in a directory.

The alias created is on the left and the right is is document url path

For instance:

/aboutus/ --> /aboutcompany - this works

/aboutus/company/ --> /aboutcompany - this does not work.

So I am curious what is the process of redirecting a path with the alias?

I should have been more clear, googe indexed the default.asp pages without the filename. So I actually have a couple issues, the missing filename (default) and the directory issue.

ok, it looks like the problem was with setting up extensionless urls. The alias doesn't like ending with a slash. Once I removed the slashes the redirects work fine.
