Update file in media library updates create date AND modified date

When ever I use the Update button in the media library, it updates the FileCreatedWhen field with the current date and time. The create date should stay the same as when the original file was created in the media library, the modified date should be the one updating. Using v5.5 R2 with content staging on Windows Server 2008 R2 Std.

Hello.

Please note this behavior is correct and by design. When you update document, new document is uploaded, since you can choose any document with "update" option.

So, technically, new document is uploaded, therefore FileCreatedWhen is updated as well.

Situation, when FileCreatedWhen stays on original value, and FileModifiedWhen is updated, is when you modify some file e.g. in Image editor. Then, file is really just updated, however when using "update" functionality, file is uploaded again = it is a new file.

I understand your explination although if that is the case the button should not say Update because it does not do as it states. It should state "Upload New Document" or "Replace Document". We have several documents in which use this field on the form to display to the end user and the documents are updated (in Word, Excel, etc.) but not within Kentico so technically, the document has been updated as you describe but it overwrites everything except the GUID. Not how a user would expect it to work based on the description of the button.
