Cannot Connet a Filter to a Custom Data Source

I have successfully created a custom filter and applied it to a UsersDataSource. I basically took the one under CMSModules/IntranetPortal/Controls for the employees and modified it. But I decided to go further and build a custom data source. I CANNOT hook up the filter the the custom data source. The SourceFilterControl property is always NULL. Any thoughts on why that might be?

It appears that you are to use the name you give the filter right above the path to the control, and NOT the name given to the web part itself. This was not evident nor explained anywhere in the documentation.

Actually, the instructions at http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/5_5r2/devguide/index.html?using_datasource_web_parts.htm say:

...
Also open the ProductsDataSource's web part properties and enter the same filter name into its Filter name property..
...

Which seems to be quite clear...
