Infinite loop in the Document Name Path

We have been having a weird bug in one of our very old Kentico site.

We are using Kentico 4.1. Not sure about the hotfix, but I found the ZIP used which is called Hotfix_41_13.zip.

This bug is interminent but keeps happening on various pages. Here's a screenshot of the problem:

This time, about 3 pages have this bug. I've noticed that the bug seems to happen mostly on the same pages over and over, and these pages have a same parent in common (not root).

Any idea on what could cause the Name Path to react like that and "loop" until maximum character is reached?

Hi,

The latest hotfix for version 4.1 was no.21.
However, I have never seen behavior like this and I am not aware of any bugs like this.

Is there any pattern when the name path is generated like this? Are you using any custom handlers or any other customizations?
Are you able to reproduce this issue on a clean installation?

Thansk for the answer. Sorry for the late reply, I did not receive an email notification... :S

We could indeed try to apply the latest hotfix in hopes it fixes the problem. However, that site has many custom components and other stuff and is a very big site. Migrating to a new version would cost too much for the client. We need a fast and cheap way to fix this.

We have not this problem on any other site we currently owns. We have some other Kentico 4.1 sites and they do not seems to have this problem.

I cannot assess as to how this gets produced but it seems to happen about every month or so, probably during page editing from the client. Seems like it happens when he's probably saving/editing content.

The problems is temporarily fixed if I check/uncheck "Use custom name path" in the Properties screen as it reload the correct name path.

I have not developed this site but we do not have anything that should affect the database like that.

Hi Nathalie,

Thank you for the port, however your details are very unclear - without exact steps how to reproduce it I am unable to tell you what is wrong. As you said - other installations do not have this issue - so I would compare their settings and also I would check all the customizations made - maybe some custom code is not handling some special situation in a condition well.

Moreover, you should consider at least upgrading to version 5.x - we will probably abandon pre-5 versions support in couple of months.
