Permissions Wish List
Permissions are difficult to manage as currently implemented. To fully configure permissions, there are 15 moduletypes and 17 doctypes that each have their own perms matrix which needs to be set, for a total of 180 or so permissions for each role. Here are some suggestions to make them easier to manage.

Copy - Would be nice to be able to copy roles from site to site or export/import them from one site to another. There could be check box options to copy permission set as well as user set.
Summary report – It would be useful to be able to compare perms side-by-side for any two roles. This could be a simple SP with options to only show differences.
Documentation – Seems to be a bit behind the 3.1a release. Display module is not in docs. The developer’s guide is

RE:Permissions Wish List
Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. It depends on how you wish to manage the permissions. You do not need to set up permissions for each document type - you can configure the permissions globally for all document types if you use CMS Content permission matrix. Alternatively, you can configure permissions on the document level in CMS Desk -> Properties -> Security. The document-type permissions are only intended for those who really need to use them.

You can find more details here: http://www.kentico.com/docs/devguide/index.html

We will consider the role copy function and summary report for future versions and fixe the documentation.

Thank you.

Regards,

Petr Palas, Kentico

RE:Permissions Wish List
Thanks for that info, Petr.
You might want to get this valuable info added to the docs, as I don't find it in there anywhere, and it is not obvious at all to me that this would be the case. It would also be great if docs added a best practices guideline for permissions so that we can build on what others have already discovered. The Security Model page gives a very simple diagram showing how one might want to have a forum admin role. You are in a position to gather real-world usage scenarios from your largest customers.
Thanks
