My own Masterpage
All I want to do is insert my own masterpage!

i have cut and paste the masterpage code into the masterpage tab in kentico, then i put the neccessary zone in and all is there except it is a HUGE mess - can't i put my template into VWD add the necessary web parts and then upload... This is proving to be so difficult thought i would have the site up and running already. so basically i have a template i want to insert the webparts and all must then work...

i have tried the page template but do not know where i put in the coding

PLEASE someone help it is sooo frustrating!

RE:My own Masterpage
Hi,

Maybe if you will go through our documentation, you will be able to create some web site - http://devnet.kentico.com/Documentation.aspx. I would recommend you the portal engine tutorial.

Many of the web site were made by professional developers with excelent knowledge of ASP.Net, CSS styles, HTML, etc. So you might need to learn also something about these technologies.

RE:My own Masterpage
i have quite a bit of knowledge on HTML and Css and a bit on asp

what i am trying to do -

I have a site abosoftware.co.za that was designed in visual web developer using asp.net think it was upgraded to 3.5

I want to put this sit into Kentico but obviously need to put in the correct "zones" and coding so that it is kentico user friendly-

So my basic question is what is the best way to go about this?

Do i take my master page wnd add the web parts etc or is there a way to import it into kentico?

RE:My own Masterpage
Hello,

I would recommend you to study the possibilities of Kentico CMS and decide by yourself how to make it work.

The Portal Engine is easier for beginners – it offers comfortable way of developing the pages in the web interface. Its documentation is here: http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/tutorial/index.html

ASPX templates do not allow adding of web parts in the web interface – you would need to develop the pages in the Visual Studio (except for the editable text parts). The advantage may be that you could use (with some changes) your ASPX templates from the original site (especially the design). Its documentation is here: http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/tutorial_aspx/index.html

You could use the CSS stylesheets from the original site and - if it is helpful for you – the import utilities – please see here for more details: http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/import_overview.htm
