Language Selection Web Part does not check if translation exists
Hi there

I am setting up a multi-lingual web site and placed a language selection web part in the header.

That works fine, but once there is a page that only exists in English and will never exist in any other language, the web part still renders a link to the other culture.

Is is possible to configure this web part (or the site) so that links to other cultures are only shown when there is a page created for this culture?

Thanks
ralph

Hi Ralph,

Thank you for your suggestion we will consider adding this functionality in one of next versions of Kentico CMS.

RE:Language Selection Web Part does not check if translation exists
Hi again

I am evaluating at the moment if it would be possible for our .Net programmer to fix this issue by creating a derivate of this web part.

With your experience:
Is it even possible for us to adapt this web part without having access to the source code?

Is it worth the trouble or will this issue be fixed with the next update?

Thanks for your insight

Hi,

There is one site option how to achieve this behavior in CMS Site Manager -> Settings -> choose your site ->
Web Site -> Combine With Default Culture where you can set if default culture version of the document should be used when the document is not translated. When you click then on Language selection web part link to the page which doesn't have language translation it will automatically use default language version.
