cannot logon
Hi
We are running Version: 1.8.2223 on a live server.
Admittedly we haven't logged on to this site for a while now, but cannot get logged on with the credentials that we have set up.
I have accessed the CMS_User table via SQL Enterprise Manager and checked the usernames and passwords that we are trying and they all seem ok.
One thing that I have noticed is that we don't get a "Login Failed" message, it just refreshes the logon page (maybe logging us in, and then straight back out again).

Anybody got any ideas ??

Many thanks
ajm

Re: cannot logon
Hello,

could you please make sure that you click the Log on button instead of pressing the enter key?

Also, could you please check if you can access CMS Desk by going to /CMSDesk/default.aspx after "unsuccessful" logon?

Re: cannot logon
Hi Petr
Yes - definately clicking the Logon button, and definately NOT being able to access the CMSDESK default page AFTER the unsuccesful login.

Any other suggestions ?
I just thought you may have a clue about an already logged error.

thanks

Re: cannot logon
Could you please try to clear your password in the database manually and then try to log on by entering your user name with blank password and clicking the Logon button?

Also, does this happen only on your server or also on your local development machine?

Re: cannot logon
Hi Petr
I did as you said, cleared the password in the database and tried to log on with a blank password - but the same thing happened. It seemed to refresh the page with no error message.
My local Dev system seems to work ok.
Should I FTP my aspx pages back up to the live server in the CMSDESK folder ??

Thanks

Re: cannot logon
Yes, please try that.

Also, could you please let me know if this happens on all computers or only on a single computer? Do you have cookies enabled in your web browser?

Thank you.

Re: cannot logon
Hi Petr
Ok - I've tried it on two different browsers and on 2 different machines - both with the same result - as before.
I have looked for my cookie and cannot find it, but I'm not convinced that that is the problem as I can access my local version OK.

Can I do a full re-install, but still keep the content of my database ?

I haven't used the Kentico CMS for a while now, so am a bit rusty on how it all hangs together - many apologies if some of the questions are a bit basic.

Thanks
ajm

Re: cannot logon
Hello,

You should have a cookie from the server where you host Kentico CMS. If you do not have a cookie there, there's some problem in configuration of either your server or browser and the re-install will not help.

Using Firefox
Hi Petr
many apologies for the red herring.
I've just started using the Firefox browser and am not used to how it stores its cookies.
I have found the cookie information now.

So, back to the reinstall . . .
Would this be a wise option ?
And if so what options should I be setting - or things that I should be aware of ?

Thanks
ajm

Re: Using Firefox
If the application was working correctly and stopped working without any changes made to the code, thent it doesn't make any sense to reinstall the web project.

I would recommend that you download exact copy of files from your web server on your development machine and make sure the application works. If it works correctly on your local machine, there must be some problem with your server.

Got it !!
Hi Petr,
Somehow (!!) the two key variables in teh web-config
CMSCacheMinutes
and
CMSCachePageInfoMinutes
had been reset to value="0".
When I changed them back to "1" I could log on OK.

I don't consciously remember resetting these, but it all seems OK now.

Thanks for your patience and time.

Re: Got it !!
I guess the site started to work after you changed the web.config which restarted the application :) Anyway, it's good to hear it's working now :)
