Documentation
Hi

Do you really think this - http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/index.html?ui_personalization_cms_desk_main_tabs.htm is acceptable.

How can anyone have any hope of understand this extremely complicated product with such appalling documentation?????

Every single time I try to do something in Kentico I can never do it!

For example I want to add a tab in CMS Desk for a custom section. According to this http://devnet.kentico.com/Forums/f41/t21155/Adding-an-extra-tab-in-the-cms-for-a-custom-sec.aspx there is a very simple and user friendly way. Well I can't find it anywhere.

Why don't you make thing intuitive?

When you are learning ASP.NET there are hundreds of websites to help you understand it.

With Kentico there is only this site. Please improve the documentation as I'm wasting too much time trying to do simple things.

Cheers
Paul

RE:Documentation
Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. We are trying to improve the documentation with each version, however there are still parts of the system which need a lot of improvement. That's why we asked our customers to report missing documentation information on our blog. There is a email message icon in the top right corner for each documentation section available for suggestions about the given documentation section.

Regarding your question, you need to click the New element link to add an element in the CMSDesk section, while the root node is highlighted.

Best regards,
Boris Pocatko

RE:Documentation
Hey Paul,

I'm sorry that you're having a hard time learning Kentico. I'm sure the support team will be able to help you with whatever you need if you drop them an e-mail at support@kentico.com.

In the meantime, let me show you how to add a new tab to CMS Desk, or any other part of the system, for that matter.

1. Open Site Manager and go to Development -> Modules.

2. Edit CMS Desk. This is the module that encapsulates the main tabs you can see in CMS Desk.

3. Click User interface and then click New element.

4. Type in the required values. Display name, Caption and URL should suffice.

5. Save the new element.

Now you should see your new tab in CMS Desk and when you click it, the page you specified by the URL loads in the main frame. The tabs will stay there.

If you wanted to dig deeper into the interface and add a new tab to, say, document properties, you would have to edit the module that corresponds to one of the main tabs - in this case, Content - in step 2. Then you would navigate to the Properties section on the User interface tab and continue with step 3.

Hope this makes sense.

I've also added the steps to add a new tab to CMS Desk to the documentation page you mention, which is, and I'm really ashamed, definitely not acceptable. Expect it to be updated Thursday at the latest.

Cheers,
Dave
