Caching Issue
Hi,

I recently started having an issue which I think may be related to some of the caching options in Kentico.

When I edit a page, either the template itself or the page content, the system will sometimes revert the page to a previous version of the template. This issue happens intermittently, sometimes the page will look fine for 5-10 minutes while I’m working on it, then revert back to a previous template. If I’ve made a few changes each time I refresh I will get a different version of the changes, almost like Kentico is cycling through the versions of the page.

I noticed this happening after I changed the caching settings, so I reverted to the default caching settings, but I still have the issue. The only other thing I can think of is that we doubled the server’s RAM. I’ve also disabled caching in my browser, so client-side caching shouldn’t be an issue, and this issue happens on more than just my computer, leading me to believe it’s a server-side problem.

I’ve attached a few screenshots showing the issue.
Image 1: This is what the page should look like based on my editing.

Image 2: This is what shows up after I was finished working on the page, saved my changes, and hit refresh a few times on the live site. (This was a previous version of the page)

If I continue to refresh the page I randomly get either Image 1 or Image 2, sometimes it will show the same page for 20+ refreshes, sometimes it switches every refresh. I can’t seem to find any rhyme or reason for this…

Below is the export of my caching settings. They should just be the default settings.

Has anyone else ever experienced an issue like this?

Thanks!

RE:Caching Issue
Set the cache settings of the webpart and you will see the results you're expecting. I've noticed this for the Random Document webpart. It wasn't random until I set the cache to 0. In the webpart go to Performance>Partial Cache Minutes and set it to 0.

RE:Caching Issue
Hello,

thank you FroggEye for the acorrect advice. Anyhow - if you want to see what cache items are stored you could use Site manager -> administration -> debug -> cache items.

You may also check it live in your browser -> chrome has a great tool for developers where you may check what cache items are stored. So does firebug addon for firefox.

RE:Caching Issue
Hello,

what webpart are you using to display users? What is/are the webparts on the users profile page? Is it Kentico defaults profile page?

I'm not sure how is this happening since im unable to reproduce this issue on my end.

Have you tried using different web browser? Are you able to reproduce this on the Kentico's sample site?

Best regards,
Richard Sustek

RE:Caching Issue
Could you please go to your CMS Desk and look into this Profile page and see what webparts or anything else is there? I believe that there is some component causing this issue. I would recommend you to try (temporary) removing the components and see if the go back button works as expected. This might help you identify the problematic component.

Let us know for further assistance.
