Search settings for container document types
I have a document type without custom fields that was created using with the option, The document type is only a container without custom fields.

There are documents in the tree that use this document type and have their own page content, but the smart search index is not picking up this content.

To index page content for normal (non-container) document types, I would go to the "Search fields" tab and set the "Content field" search setting to "DocumentContent", but this tab is apparently not available for container document types.

Is there any way to configure search settings for container document types such that their document content is indexed?

Or is this kind of document type only intended to hold transformations, queries, etc. and never actually be used to create pages? If this is the case, I think this intent needs to be made more clear in the document type creation wizard.

Thanks for the help.

RE:Search settings for container document types
Hi,

The container document type is like a folder document type. What kind of content are you talking about? Do you mean the content on the page tab?
what are the exact index settings please?

Best regards,

RE:Search settings for container document types
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I am talking about the content on the page tab.

I am using a "Documents Crawler" index, analyzer type: Standard. On the Index tab, I am allowing all document types on the path /%. No excluded content.

After rebuilding the index, the search preview isn't returning any results when I search for words found in either the document title or document content (page tab content) of instances of my container document type.

Since you say container document types behave like folder document types, I can rephrase my question: Can smart search index content on the page tab of a Folder doctype? Does this require any special settings or should it happen automatically as long as the doctype is included in the allowed content for the index?

RE:Search settings for container document types
Hi,

It is working fine for me. What are the exact page template settings for the document that is the container type? Is the editable region placed on the page template and the content added on this particular document? It is working fine for me even with the default documents index.

Best regards,
