Hi,

There will be an upgrade procedure from 6.0 (SP1) to 7.0 available during October.

The last statement from our CTO is in the discussion under Kentico CMS 7 Final full feature list blogpost:

Upgrade from v7 RC to final should be available at the beginning of October (probably released at the Prague Connection), and upgrade from v6 to v7 later in October (probably second half).

In the meantime, you could use export - import scenario.

As for the license keys - Yes, version 7 requires new license key (as every major version). It should be possible to upgrade your keys in the Client portal Keys section, or, please, send us an email to support@kentico.com.

As well as exporting from 5.5 to 7.0. I seem to keep having webparts duplicated and overwritten. I have only done 3 sites and have had to roll back code and the database a few times. Eric

I'm also interested in steps to upgrade to v.7. Especially around what to do with regards to binaries (uninstall v6.0, install v.7.0, etc.) and accounting for server farms.

I am going to make my request again. I am looking for assistance on doing an export from a 6.x website and importing it into 7.0. I want to make sure the bulk of the site will copy over but not overwrite new webparts and new code. I have had problems importing sites in the past when jumping a major version.

Should I be able to do this today and have 90% success?

Hello Eric,

I would recommend you to follow these steps.

1. Make a backup

2. Clone your WebParts (cloned webparts won't be overwritten). Remember please, that cloning WebParts is the way we recommend considering of the future upgrades.

3. Export site

4. Upgrade

5. Import site

Or just back-up the code of your WebParts, upgrade and after that copy your custom code from the old ones. But in this case problem will occur again with another upgrade in the future.
