why does "latin" appear in the "Insert/Edit an Image or Media" dialog?
Why does "latin" appear in the "Insert Image or Media" dialog?

When I click in the WYSIWYG editor on a page, press "Insert/Edit image or media" button, I get the "Insert Image or Media" dialog window opening up. When I select an image to insert, on the General tab, it shows the options to set for the image (width, height, etc.) and it also previews what that image looks like to the right. Why does latin always appear beside this preview image:

It does not appear anywhere in the code once the image is inserted... I just don't understand why this appears in the dialog. Also, you cannot edit or delete it.

Hello,

As first, please use the QaA section next time instead of Forums (they will be locked in a short time).

What exact hotfix are you running? This should be a bug in a very first version so applying the latest hotfix for version 7 will fix this issue.

Best Regards,
Martin

Thanks, I have various sites using the following hotfixes: 7.0.43 and 7.0.42... all are showing this latin when inserting an image.

Hi,

It is a dummy text used widely (it really does not mean anything to be politically correct) just to preview how the text will look like in various cases. For more details please see this page or, you can Google "lorem ipsum" for even more pages talking about this.

RE:why does "latin" appear in the "Insert/Edit an Image or Media" dialog?
Thanks, I understand it's latin and it's used to fill space, but why is it appearing in the "insert/edit image" dialog? Is this a glitch in Kentico? It only shows up when a user selects an image in this dialog, where it appears below the "preview" of the image. You cannot edit or remove this text underneath the preview. This is happening on multiple websites with hotfixes up to 7.0.42 and 7.0.43.

It is confusing to a person who is inserting an image as it could look like it will insert the image and the text that appears below (it doesn't). From a designer/developer perspective, it looks like somebody forgot to delete the sample "latin" in the control for this dialog.

I'm thinking that, this is something that Kentico is not going to correct? If not, please tell me what the value of having latin appear below the image in this dialog, am I missing something?

RE:why does "latin" appear in the "Insert/Edit an Image or Media" dialog?
Hi,

This is a common practice in other tools as well - it is the preview so the editor, who is inserting the image, can see how it will look like after the image is inserted.
It is not editable because it is a preview and using the dummy text is better than parsing the text every time, very time consuming. This dummy text is in Kentico ever since as well as in many other programs that deal with adding text or images into HTML.
And as you can also read, it is being used for more than 500 years in printing and typesetting industry.
