Automatic update of links
Apologies in advance if this is a really basic question, but I am new to Kentico and I am trying to establish some of the simple operational questions.

Having experimented with creating links, it looks to me as if it is easy for a Kentico user to link to content and then have a 404 page not found generated as soon as the content is archived or rejected in workflow. I would have expected Kentico to update any hyperlinks to the object to remove the link if the object was no longer available.

Am I missing something?

RE:Automatic update of links
Welcome to Kentico Tim!

You need to make a page in your content tree first either a generic "this page doesn't exist" page or a 404 page. Then in Site Manager>Settings>URLs and SEO>Search engine optimization (SEO) select the "Default replacement document".

You might also want to specify a 404 page in Site Manager>Settings>Content>Page not found.

RE:Automatic update of links
Thanks Brenden

That helps make the user experience much better. Do you know if there is a way to get Kentico to remove links to pages that have been "unpublished" through workflow, or by archiving - i.e. if I set a link in the rich text editor to a page which then gets unpublished, can Kentico automatically remove this link in the rich text?

RE:Automatic update of links
As far as I know that is not available. Sounds like a nice feature or enhancement to what is already there. You might request that on the UserVoice site. http://kentico.uservoice.com
