Placing layouts in the wysiwyg editor
We would like the ability for users to place sections of standard layouts into the content area while they are editing. For instance, they could select the option "Image left, text right", which would place suitable markup into the area and they could add the image and text themselves. This would happen several times, with variations, within the same content block. The content block in this case is a field on a custom document type (edited via Form tab in CMS Desk).

What is the best way to go about achieving this?

RE:Placing layouts in the wysiwyg editor
Hi,

I am not sure what you mean but, have you tried using the layout widgets (you need to enable them as inline widgets)? Also, it does not make that much sense in WYSIWYG editor since you can use the HTML markup in it to create the layout you want. Moreover, if it is on the Form tab, you can also set the layout and appearance in the transformation which is displaying this content.

Best regards,

RE:Placing layouts in the wysiwyg editor
The editing is done in the Form tab, but the block of text could be long, with a mixture of different layout styles. What we're trying to avoid is the need for the editor to have a good knowledge of html, so the idea of being able to add in "fillable" blocks of markup is the idea here.

RE:Placing layouts in the wysiwyg editor
So, have you tried using the Insert widget button and allow the layout widgets to be inline widgets and/or creating also custom layout widgets to meet your need?

Anyway, I can see here that the editor can mess up things since they will be in conflict e.g. with styles in the transformation defined by the designer - so the layout could be overlapping or be overlapped by something else. In general, I do not think it is a good idea at all. It would be better to allow this to be done on the Page tab using pure widgets.
