Clone UI culture strings?
Hi

I have a few hundred UI strings in some cultures like fr-FR.

I wanted to clone the UI strings from fr-FR to the new fr-CA as a starting point and then go through and modify the few that I need to change. In the cultures list in site manager I clicked on "Clone" option and created my new UI culture, but it doesn't actually clone anything.

All it seems to do is create a new UI culture that inherits from base (in this case, en-US), which seems like the same outcome as just creating a new UI culture.

1) Why doesn't clone actually clone anything?
2) Is the only way to actually clone these strings to hack the database as described here?

Thanks.

RE:Clone UI culture strings?
Hello,

Could you please tell me which exact hotfix version are you using? I don't have any problem with the hotfix v 7.63 cloning the culture.

And yes, actually I'm not aware about any other option to achieve this.

Best regards,
Martin Danko

RE:Clone UI culture strings?
Hotfix version: 7.0.64

The clone button works in the sense that no errors are returned, it's just that it doesn't do anything. The problem is that when I click "Clone", the clone runs but nothing from the culture is actually cloned.

If I clone fr-FR to fr-CA, I don't get any of the current translations in fr-FR cloned to fr-CA - I'll just get a new fr-CA culture with empty translations (defaulting back to the en-US culture).

RE:Clone UI culture strings?
Hello,

I see know, this could a little bit confusing as the "Clone" functionality is a general one of the UniGrid Control which is also used here, but the fact is that it simply clone -> create the new culture with a different name but it doesn't copy all the resourse strings and this is by design.

In this scenario you should also copy the related resource string file (RESX) as you can read more about this in the Developers Guide: Configuring multilingual and RTL UI -> especially steps 3 and 4.
