Upgrade from 5.5R2 to 6.0 with webfarm and content staging
We are looking to upgrade our v5.5.3996 R2 environment to 6.0 and then 7.0.

We currently running using .net 4.0 on IIS 7 and using SQL 2008.

We have 2 production servers that use the webfarm feature. We also have a staging server that synchronizes with production via the content staging feature.

1. Are there any manual changes needed to configure content staging after the upgrade or do the settings persist?

2. Does staging and production have to be in synch prior to the upgrade or will the pending items persist through the upgrade and still be able to synchronize after?

3. How do we upgrade the 2 production servers? Do we run the upgrade against both or is there another way?

4. Any other considerations we need to take before upgrading our environment?

Thanks for your help.

RE:Upgrade from 5.5R2 to 6.0 with webfarm and content staging
Hi,

1. and 2. - the data will persist.

3. You can upgrade both web projects separately or, if they are exact same copies, upgrade one and then just copy it to the second server. The DB is the same, so you will run the SQL script only once.

4. Be sure you have most recent backups, you have read and understand the upgrade instructions, you have list of all your customizations so you will know what to do - there were several API changes so you may need to change the custom code manually. Also, make sure that the staging and production sites are off-line during upgrade and also that there are no changes made e.g. on production while staging is off-line.
