Forums on Free edition, version 6
I'm trying to experiment with the Free edition of version 6 on my company Intranet.
I just want a couple of pages and a discussion forum.
I've created a new Forum Group, but when I try to add a Forum it says : "The requested feature is not available in the CMS edition you are using: Free "
Are forums not supported in the free version ?
Thanks,
Tim.

RE:Forums on Free edition, version 6
Hello Tim If you will take a look at the Feature matrix. You will find out that the Groups are not available in the Free Edition and also... you can have only 3 forums. I hope this explains the limitations. Best regards, Martin Danko

Sorry, I'm a bit confused.
Can I have Forums without them being in a Forum group ?

Hi Tim,
Yes of course, Forums group are a little bit different part. Could you please check if there aren't any pre-defined forums, so after creating your own, you have reached a limitation of 3 forums?
Best regards, Martin Danko

No you cannot have a forum without it being in a group. The group is just a container and by default will display as a header at the top of a grid while all the forums are nested below it. If you look how the Devnet forums are setup, Version 7.x is a group and Portal Engine is a forum. As already mentioned, the limitation is to 3 forums (not groups)

No you cannot have a forum without it being in a group.
So, I can't have groups, and I can't have a forum unless it is in a group ? - someone is incorrect here, surely ?

Hello,
Groups are not available in Free edition. Forum Groups are available and you can have as many of them as you like. Forums are available, but only 3 altogether across all Forum Groups and Sites.

I apoligize for the confusion Tim, I should have stated you cannot have a Forum without it being in a Forum Group, not a Group. Groups and Forum Groups are 2 totally different items.

RE:Forums on Free edition, version 6
OK, thanks.
So, the underlying question is still there:
If I install a clean copy of V6 Free edition to an empty database, install a blank site, go to site content, Add a Forum Group and then try to add a forum it says : "The requested feature is not available in the CMS edition you are using: Free"
Thanks to everybody for their help,
Tim.

RE:Forums on Free edition, version 6
Found the answer :
“Hotfix 6.0.2: Licensing - Adding new forums wasn't possible in the Free edition.”
installing the hotfix seems to have cured the problem.
Tim.

Hi Tim, thanks for the update. I'm glad that your issue was resolved by applying the hotfix. As I mentioned before... Groups a Forum groups are 2 different things: 1. Creating a forum group2. Groups managementBest regards, Martin Danko
