RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
Hello.

I have found a similar (or basically the same) issue / error message related to AD Import toolkit, which is totally different application and also on Google, where this error is related to non-Kentico application at all. So it seems it can be environment related problem. I would like to submit it to our developers in order to investigate the problem and find any possible fix, but I need some additional info.

Can you describe your environment more in details? What OS are you using, .NET Framework version, if you are and can run KIM under administrator credentials, if the site you tried to apply hotfix on is running on IIS or VS built-in web server, and so on. Also, can you try to hotfix KIM files? It could help, too. If not, please clarify questions above and I will deal with our developer. Thank you.

Best Regards,
Radek Macalik

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
Hi Radek,
Below are the answers to your questions:

Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter
.NET version 4.0
No we cannot run KIM as administrator, the same error occurs
We are running IIS 7

Also, regarding the hotfix, when we unpack the Hotfix_6_0_10.exe file and try to run hotfix.exe it crashes with the same error as KIM and this occurs when running as administrator also. Please let me know if you need additional information.

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
Just because it drives me nuts to see the exact problem I am running into without an answer...

I ran into the same error above with a pretty much identical configuration and was getting the same error. Turned out I had .net 4 installed but not .net 3.5. After installing .net 3.5 KIM worked fine.

Hope this saves someone else 15 minutes of troubleshooting.

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
I had a similar error today with a hotfix.exe and the only different in my error message was a couple of the Problem Signatures (see below). It turns out the server did not have the 3.5 framework installed to run the executable. Once I set that up on the server all was well. This may not be the exact same issue for yours but it might help someone else.

Caution: If you enable 3.5 after having 4 installed you may end up with the classic service module conflict. Here is a link to the issue and the resolution.
The error is: Could not load type 'System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpModule' from assembly 'System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089.

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
I have the same problem. It turned out at it is not problem of .NET version. I've installed clean Kentico 7 installation on my pc and after that it worked. I was able to run Import Toolkit. However when I uploaded that EXE file on my webserver so I again got the same error. It happens the same when I just copy that file to my desktop. Does it mean at there are files which ImportToolkit depends on? Any library files which have to be copied as well?

Please let me know if someone has any ideas.

Regards,
Piotr

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
Hello,

Which exe file are you talking about? Was the Kentico installed on the server? Are the setup files available (the default location is in Program files -> KenticoCMS -> version number folder) on the server? the exe files needs some DLLs apparently to run correctly - those from the BIN folder of the setup files. I would recommend in stalling the setup files on given machine too.

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
Thank you for response!

No, Kentico was installed on my computer and files from BIN folder were uploaded to the server. It is ImportToolkit.exe I am speaking about.

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
Do you know which files I have to upload so it could work on the server without installing Kentico on destination server?

RE:KIM Crashes Immediately After Launch
Hi,

I would copy all content of c:\Program Files (x86)\KenticoCMS\7.0\ except the hotfix/upgrade folders, CodeSamples, Controls, Documentation and SampleCertificates. They should not be required. But, if you copy them as well, nothing bad will happen.

I would also double check that the server has the .Net versions installed.

Best regards,
Juraj Ondrus
