Web farms
My environment is setup in a web farm with 2 web servers in a farm. We also have a physical load balancer setup as well. I thought I read somewhere there was an issue with Kentico and web farms/load balancers but cannot remember where or what it was. I've looked through the Dev Docs and cannot find anything specific so thougth I'd ask.

RE:Web farms
Hello.

What issue in particular are you facing to, please? Web farms are supported and you can configure it according to http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/web_farm_support_overview.htm.

Please note: The web farm support doesn't replace any load-balancing or web farm management tools.

Best Regards,
Radek Macalik

RE:Web farms
Thanks for the link Radek. I thought there was something do to with DFS and replication within the web farm itself but now I can't remember if I'm mixing it up with something else or not. Just want to make sure before we go live.

RE:Web farms
Radek, I've read all through the documentation and would like to know 2 things:

1. Is there a benefit to use Kenticos tool vs. some built in tool (DFS) that Windows Server offers?

2. In my current environment I have 2 dev machines and a dev server. When I make a change to settings or templates etc those changes arent viewable on the other machine for a long time after (an hour ot longer). Is there a way to make these changes happen faster?

RE:Web farms
Hello.

Just to be sure, by DFS you refer to Distributed File System functionality as described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_File_System_(Microsoft)?

As for your second question - where these changes are not visible? In back-end (for example you don't see updated page template object in Site Manager / Development / Page templates section), or on live site? In second case, the problem could be connected to loading old data from cache, which would indicate the web farm module is not setup well.

Thank you in advance for clarification.

Best Regards,
Radek Macalik

RE:Web farms
Yes that is what I mean by DFS. I currently don't have the web farm setup on our dev installation. Its simply 3 installs connected to the same database. All files are stored in the database. And yes, if I make a change on a page template its not visible on the other dev machine for what could be hours later. Is there any cache settings I can change so this happens faster with or with out setting up web farm settings?

RE:Web farms
Hello.

As for DFS - you can combine it with our web farms module and use it typically for web parts physical files.

As for page templates issue - the problem is you do not have it configured as web farms yet ("I currently don't have the web farm setup"), so the cache is not cleared and you don't see this change from other machine. You need to setup web farms first.
